Yippee it's nearly the weekend! So today you have two pages; this home learning page and a Food Glorious Food Page which has all of your recipes and will soon have pictures of your delicious bakes that you have all been making.
Thank you to so many of you for sending in really thoughtful postcards and catch-ups for Miss Vetch.
She will really enjoy looking at them all and I'm certain you will have made her day.
Have a lovely Friday! I look forward to seeing how you get on. Remember if you need us just use the class email or the Purple Mash email.
Reading
Just two more weeks left to achieve this half terms reading target so I would like you to prioritize your reading this week. That means, if you can, do your 30 minutes reading and quizzing before doing anything else, to make sure it isn't forgotten. Remember we are also aiming for those quiz scores to be over 85% to show you are reading and understanding.
Well done to Chloe H, Eliza S, Katie W, Abbey B, Max D, Matilda J, Max J, Harriet S, Lauren E and William for already smashing their targets. Also now to Noah and Chloe E who have both now achieved their target! Keep going everyone else - you still have until the end of next week.
Remember if you are beginning to run out of books then go to this page on the website as there is a huge list of suggestions for where to go to find books that are still on AR!
PE
How accurate are your throwing skills? Have a go at playing a game of three in a row. Challenge other people in your house and see who wins! Create a points system, change the distance, add more objects to make it challenging, or change the throwing object. Don’t get too competitive!
Spellings
Use the link below to find an online look cover write check activity. If you would rather be screen-free
and take your learning outside, see if you can find natural materials to create your spellings this week.

Today I would like you to focus on your Times Tables - I have set up a battle on TT. It is aGirls VS Boys battle! Good luck to you all, try hard and see what you can do to help your team score the most points! (It will begin at 9am and finish at 3pm)
UPDATE @ 11:55 Come on boys, you need to help!
Writing
Remember our poems at the start of the week? Well, today you are going to be writing your own. I have included some examples of acrostic poems below: they are about my favourite food!
«»
Remember an acrostic poem uses the letters of the words as the start of each new line in the poem. Sometimes people start a new sentence with every new letter, (Like the second example above) and sometimes a writer continues sentences over a few lines (Like the first example.)
You need to choose a food that you think you can write about in a descriptive and interesting way. This may be because you love it, or maybe because you hate it! Plan out what you might write about think about the 5 senses - taste, smell, sight, feel, hear. Then put those ideas all together into an acrostic poem for us to enjoy.
Please send me a picture or copy of your poems so I can share them on our Food Glorious Food page over the weekend.
Learning Project: Food
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more food. Learning may focus on where different foods originate from, what makes a healthy meal, opportunities to cook etc. As usual use this as an opportunity to research and work on ideas and issues that interest you. Use the ideas below as a starting point but follow your own thoughts and learning.
Let’s Wonder:
What is a balanced diet? Find out about the 5 food groups. Make slides or posters about what you find out about. What are - Carbohydrates, Protein, Dairy, Fruits and Vegetables, and Fats. Where does your food come from? Which foods come from the UK? What is fairtrade?
Let’s Create:
Make repeated pattern prints for decorative purposes using various natural materials, e.g potato printing.
Perhaps create some still life observational sketches of fruit. Look at the artwork of
Giuseppe Arcimboldo -maybe recreate some of his paintings with fruit.
Time to Talk:
As a family, design a healthy meal plan for the week. Discuss your favorite foods and why you all enjoy them? Talk about healthy and unhealthy foods and explain the importance of eating a balanced diet. Talk to older members of your family and ask them about food - have the types of food available changed? Do they eat differently now? What are their favorite foods?
Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences:
Lunch around the world. Look at lunch around the world and investigate how differently people eat in other parts of the world. Find out what a vegetarian is? Vegan? Kosher food? Halal food?
Reflect:
Reflect on food use and food wastage around the world. Find out about countries which experience famine - why does this happen? Reflect on how you can reduce food waste in your house? Learn about food banks in our area - why are these needed? Who supports food banks? Can you help at all?
Take care, work hard but get plenty of activity and sunshine if it is about today!
