Class 3 - Tuesday 28th April
27 Apr 2020
Morning everyone! How are you? We had great excitement in our house yesterday tea time as we finally saw the blackbird fledgling that has been living in a nest box at the bottom of our garden! If you click on the picture, you can find out about some more common garden birds. I wonder how many you have seen. I hope you are enjoying our learning project about animals, I enjoyed seeing your animal work already, there are some beautiful bug houses and artworks being created!
Remember if you would like to send us pictures or files then please use our class email address:
class3@gfschools.co.uk This will help us to see your work quicker and reply more easily to you. Alternatively, if you need to just send us a message purple mash email is quick and easy too!
Spellings
I forgot to mention tests yesterday. Some of you were very conscientious and still did your test (well done!) but for those who forgot, can you please do your spelling test on the words you learned last week! See how many have stayed in your memory and let me know your scores.
Then continue to practice your chosen words for this week using one of our fun games! Try one of our school favorites maybe! If you want a game of battleships the sheet is here.
Reading
How are you getting on with your reading books? If you are beginning to get short on AR reading books then don't dismay, we have got a document that signposts lots of places to find, free, books and texts that are on AR! You can find this in the Enrichment section of the Website!
Reading is very, very important so please make sure you are doing this every day. Just like at school, please read for 30 minutes from your current AR home reading book. Remember when you finish and are ready to quiz you can access AR at home using the link we gave out.
Well done to Fraya, Lauren E, Max D, William, Hannah, Noah and Katie, Jake S and Chloe E for making a start on your AR reading targets! Abbey, Matilda, Max J, Eliza St, and Max J - have now actually already achieved their AR targets! Wha superstar readers we have in Class 3!
Maths
Today I would like you to continue your thinking and learning about shape.
If you did not complete your MyMaths session yesterday please do this first today, be sure to complete the lesson first before trying the homework. (Don't worry if you find it tricky. Do your best and remember mistakes are often our first step in learning!)
If you are all up to date in MyMaths please have a go at this shape trail, links below. Use your learning from MyMaths to help you. If you have a printer you can print the sheet or simply copy it into your workbook if not.

How are you getting on choosing your 2.6 challenge? I have had some really interesting posters sent in which I will be posting them on our 2.6 Challenge page so take a look if you need some inspiration. My 2.6 challenge is going to be to run every day for 26 days! But I have not yet decided which charity I want to support as there are so many I would love to help. So I would like you to help me decide...
Today's task is to tell me all about your chosen charity.
Do some research and find out about what the charity does - how does it help? Who does it help?
How do they use the money you give them? Why is their work important?
Lastly, explain to me why you chose this charity, why is it important to you and how much would you like to raise for them?
I have set a ToDo in Purple Mash for you to record all this information, but as usual, if PM is difficult or you would prefer to use your workbook or type it in word or PowerPoint that is fine. Please let me have a copy of your work via class3@gfschools.co.uk if you don't use the ToDo on Purple Mash.
Learning Project: Animals
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more about key animals that interest you. Learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.
Really use this time to wonder, explore and reflect on animals that fascinate you. Choose activities from the list below or if you can be creative in a different way please do! We would love to see what you create and find out so remember to send us a quick snap of any animal work to class3@gfschools.co.uk
Let’s Wonder:
Create fact files about deadly predators. Draw pictures of the predators and label them with the information you find out. Where does the predator live? Why does it live there? What does it eat? How does it capture its prey? What special qualities do these predators have? Make a
food chain to demonstrate why a predator is at the top of the chain. You could make a set of
top trump cards using the information you have found out.
Let’s Create:
Explore the artist
Franz Marc. Find out who he was and what type of artist he was. What did he like to create pictures? Look at some of his paintings online. Then choose an animal to draw and add colour to, in a similar style to his. What do you think of his paintings? Did you like your finished piece of artwork? Why?/Why not?
Be Active:
Get out into the garden and make a
bug hotel. Go on a mini beast hunt and record what you find. If you find any minibeasts you haven’t seen before you could always look it up online. What can you find out about these amazing creatures?
Time to Talk:
Find out which animals are your family members' favourites and why. Have a family debate about whether zoos should exist. Discuss whether you agree/disagree and why? Do your family members have a different opinion to you? Why not debate whether animals should be kept as pets?
Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences:
Which animals are considered to be sacred around the world and why?
Sacred Animals Who admires cows? Lions? Wolves? Which animals were important to the Egyptians and why?
Enjoy your day! I look forward to seeing what you get up to and hearing about your 2.6 challenge charities. Don't forget to share your challenge posters with me too.
