I hope you had a good weekend, relaxing after your incredible work last week. Thank you for sending in pictures of what you have been doing at home. It is lovely to see you putting so much pride into your work and seeing just how creative you are! We have some great learning for you this week at home so please do keep sending in your pictures and message us through the Purple Mash email if you want to say hello!
Maths
Today, I would like you to use Purple Mash for your Maths work. Have three tries at the Multiplication Assessment and see how you get on! Draw a table in your learning journal to help you keep a record of your scores. Afterwards, use the multiplication practice tool on Purple mash or use TT rock stars to keep practising those times tables.
Spellings
It's test day! Ask an adult at home to test you on the 10 spellings that you learned last week. After you have marked them, send me your score using the email on Purple Mash. (If you are not sure how to do this take a look at this guide . ) Now choose another group of between 5 - 10 words to practise this week. I will give you a new game to try out tomorrow, but maybe you could invent your own fun way to practise them and share it with us too!
Reading
Please read for 30 minutes from your current AR home reading book. Remember to keep quizzing at the end of your books. It would be fantastic if I could add some more names to our AR points target achievers page! Well done to Abbey, Matilda, Noah, Aiden, Benjamin and Katie, who are already working above their points target!
Writing
Today’s focus is on expanded noun phrases. A noun phrase is a collection of words that describe a noun. E.g. “the beautiful, tiny robin”.
There is a nice mini video here to watch to help if you need it.
Look around you and chose 5 nouns (a word that represents a person, place, thing or idea). Then add words, adjectives, to describe these nouns like the example above.
Finally, create sentences that use these noun phrases. For example:
“The beautiful, tiny robin sang a peaceful tune while I dug the garden. “
When you have finished, illustrate your sentences if you would like to and then send me a picture of your fantastic sentences!
Learning Project Focus: Our Local Area
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more about the area in which you live. Learning may focus on your local area, famous people, key landmarks and links to your city.
Let’s Wonder:
Think about your street. What type of houses are on your street? What type of house do you live in? What other buildings are close by? Find out about your local area, what different buildings does it have? How old are some of those buildings? How have they changed over time? Use a map to locate different places. Look on Google Earth. Draw your own map of their local area.
Let’s Create:
Choose a building you most admire in your local area. Make a model of that building using materials of your choice. (Playdough, junk modeling, lego etc…..) Reflect on your creation: How well did you do? What would you do differently next time? What have you learned by making this?
Be Active:
Try and be as active as you can daily! Make sure you get outside and exercise every day if possible or try out online exercise classes like Joe Wickes! Get out into the garden, pull up some weeds or mow the lawn? (With parental guidance!) Does your garden need a tidy up? Maybe you could plant some seeds.
Time to Talk:
Were your family members all born in this local area? If not, how is their place of birth different to your own local area? If they were, how different is the local area since they were born? Talk about their memories of how it has changed.
Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences:
Research different places of worship that can be found in our local area. Can you find their nearest Church? Mosque? Synagogue? Temple? Gurdwara? What can you find out about them? Draw pictures and label them with any information they find out.
Reflect:
Think about what would improve the local area? What is our local area lacking? What spoils your local area? What could be done?
Have a good day everyone, I look forward to seeing your work later. Take care and stay safe!
