Class 4's Narratives

14 Jul 2022

Over the last few weeks, we have been focusing on narrative writing in Class 4.

We began by using a short film of a character called 'the dreamgiver' as a stimulus, and using him, we experimented writing character descriptions in different ways. We considered what would improve our descriptions and then worked hard on doing this. Then, we moved onto creating atmosphere through a setting description. We spent time thinking about how we wanted the reader to feel when reading the description, and then what we could do to make them feel that way. The children chose their own stimulus for this.

We've also looked at the purpose and audience of narratives, and we looked carefully at the features of stories too - what different style of narrative there are and what they include. We have then developed our ideas around the plot of our own stories and ensured that they are believeable, but also exciting and engaging. Some children chose to have only one dilemma, some have got a few!

The children chose their own audience for their writing and then planned how they wanted the reader to feel at different times in their stories. They planned their plot and considered ways to create atmosphere or advance the action when needed. Then when they had decided on a set of success criteria, it was time to write!

The children combine the writing and editing process to constantly improve their work, and make sure that their writing is as effective as possible.

I am so pleased with the results! We have 29 completely diffterent stories, which we have all enjoyed sharing. Here are a few...
