Our first week back

06 Jan 2022

It has been lovely to be back together in class this week.smiley I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the children's christmas celebrations and the exciting gifts they received.

We have had a busy start to the term, and we've started as we mean to go on!

We've been looking at non-fiction texts in guided reading, and we really enjoyed reading 'what's inside the earth' together on Thursday. We then focused on the content domain 2a which meant that we looked at the use of language and the meaning of the words used within the text. We had some interesting discussions and the children recorded their answers and thoughts.

In geography, we are going to be investigating disasters such as volcanoes and earthquakes, and so we used volcanoes as the stimulus for our poetry work. We began by writing acrostic poems and then we moved onto kennings poems. We are developing our use of figurative language within our poems. Here are some of our acrostic poems for you to read.

In maths, we have continued with our work on fractions. I have been really impressed with how much the children have remembered from before Christmas and how well they've done this week. We have been simplifying fractions this week, and next we are moving onto improper and mixed number fractions.
