Good Morning Class 4

Happy Monday my lovely lot! smiley I hope you all had a lovely weekend?

It's Monday morning, and time for another clip to make you smile.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08NlhjpVFsU

I hope that worked and you are all now smiling! smiley

Remember that if you would like to send me examples of your work or simply want to tell/ ask me something then you can use Purple Mash email or the class email address: class4@gfschools.co.uk

These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time. yes

PE:

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:

For your reading task today, I would like you to read for 30 minutes. You should use your reading book for AR. Remember, when you complete a book, you can still do your AR quiz as you normally would at school. Follow the link below:

https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

I'll be checking later to see who has been quizzing. :-)

Maths task:

Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:

I have set you an activity for today. Year 5s yours is about mental division, and Year 6s yours is about short and long division. Remember to go through the lesson before you do the questions. If you find it difficult, you can go back to the lesson and have another go at the questions. I will be checking how you're getting on as the day goes on.

You could then also spend 15 minutes on Sumdog. The link is below:

Spelling task:

Please practise the Year 5 and 6 common exception words in your exercise books. Spend around 15 minutes on this task. Ensure that you choose spellings that you don't already know how to spell.

  -Year 5 and 6 common exception words.doc-

If you're used to doing the high frequency words instead, here is a list of the second 100 high frequency words for you to carry on with.

-2nd 100 high frequency words .pdf-

Writing task:

I would like you to consider the importance of recycling to our planet. As with most global issues, we can all make a difference by doing our bit.

Today, I would like you to write a persuasive letter to Mrs Acheson about the importance of recycling at school. You are aiming to persuade her to allow us to increase the recycling we do at school and to start some new initiatives, of your choice.

It would be helpful if you research the impact of recycling first to find facts and statistics to support your arguments. You could also research ideas for other initiatives we could do around recycling. Have a look at what other schools do. You can then include these in your letter to make it more persuasive.

I have created a letter '2do' task on Purple Mash if you would like to write it on there. If not, you can do it in your exercise book or on word.

Music:

I have set you another music task on the charanga music website. Use the below link to login with your own details. Don't worry about trying to learn the whole song today; just give it a go! Enjoy!

Learning project:

The focus for this week's project is 'environment'.

The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about the environment. Learning may focus on changes to different environments, the impact of humans on environments, climate change etc.

Endangered Species-
The tiger, amur leopard, orangutan, sea turtle and the sumatran elephant are some of the most endangered animals on the planet. Choose an animal from one region and describe how it has evolved to suit its habitat. Now consider how your chosen animal may need to adapt due to the current environment and human threats it faces. Create an informative leaflet about the threat the animal faces and what humans can do to minimise these threats.

Upcycling, upcycling- Choose an item within the house that you do not really use anymore - this could be an old item of clothing, accessory or household item - and upcycle it to make a new item that you will use. Then evaluate the product and identify any areas that you could improve if you were to make it again. You may even want to write a set of instructions so that other people can upcycle the same item too.

Protecting our Oceans- Marine life faces a number of threats including plastic pollution, tourism, habitat destruction, ocean warming and overfishing. How can we make a difference now? Sketch an image representing the impact society is having on today’s oceans using a drawing material material of their choice. Afterwards, you may wish to sketch an image of an ideal ocean environment. You can use websites and books to find out what makes the best environment for marine life to flourish (you could look at the Great Barrier Reef and its significance).

Do People Intentionally Damage an Area?-  Imagine that a new park, housing development, restaurant or other structure is being built on green land near their home. How might this be positive for the environment? How might this be negative for the environment? Create a poster that explains the pros and cons of this new development. Consider wildlife, air and noise pollution and jobs.

Have a great day everyone, and I really look forward to seeing your work.

Take care

Mrs Barker
