Our Science launch day

04 Nov 2021

We had a lovely day on Tuesday, all being back together again in class, and having Mrs Webster back with us was an added bonus. We were lucky to welcome Mrs Jarman this week too, who will now work with us on a Thursday and a Friday.

On Wednesday, we had a brilliant day launching our learning for this half term.

The big question that the whole school is focusing on is, 'What do we value the most?' In class, we thought about this question a lot. We considered what we value the most about our school and our community at Fountains, and the children all recorded their thoughts on post it notes. We then went on to think about ourselves individually. We thought about what we love the most, whether it be people, activities, objects, places, pets or something else. From that, the children tried to identify their own values. Initially, they found this difficult, but soon realised what their values are.

We then had our exciting science session meeting a range of animals; there was a snake, a tarantula, a hamster, guinea pigs and more! The children were able to touch and hold the animals that they wanted to. This session perfectly launched our science unit of 'living things and their habitats'.

Following on from this, we started our science work in class. We began by sorting and classifying living things into groups based on their similarities. We then moved on to find out about the Linnaeus system.
