Problem solvers!

20 May 2021

Over the last few weeks, we have been trialling a new approach to spelling. We have spent lots of time looking at the homophones and near homophones that we regularly spell incorrectly in our work. The children have really improved.

For homework last week, the children created their own quizzes on these homophones. This morning, they swapped quizzes with a partner and completed each others'; they then marked how they'd done. The children really enjoyed it, and have started to take much more responsibility for their spelling.

In maths this week, we have been recapping our written methods and we've been problem solving. Today, the children took on some much more difficult problems that involved a lot of thinking! The children had to apply their mathematical knowledge and work systematically to solve these problems. They completed some in pairs on white boards and then worked independently in their books. Here they are, hard at work.

This problem fooled them all. Five dojos will be given to anyone who can solve it! Your child might well bring it home with them this weekend; they will do anything for a dojo! smiley
