Our Terrific Tudor day

29 Sep 2021

On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to have John from Historical Interpretations visit us. He came dressed as someone from the reign of Elizabeth I, and brought with him many many exciting Tudor artefacts.

We had such a fun day, and the children were so engaged and well behaved. I was very proud of them.

The day began with an introduction to the Tudors, with a brief look at clothing, and then the children were able to investigate with a range of artefacts. They had to guess at their use, consider whether they would be used by rich or poor and take notice of the materials used. The children also had a go at drawing the artefacts.

We spent a lot of the day learning about how the change of monarchy during the Tudor period impacted on religion and society. The children had a go at working with a code that Mary Queen of Scots used when she was being protected by Elizabeth I.

We then looked at some of the weapons used during Elizabeth I's reign and in particular in preparation for the invasion of the Spanish Armada.

We found out about some of their medicines and methods to treat illness and injury, which were interesting!

Tudor dancing finished off the day, and that was definitely a highlight! Thank you very much to the Class 4 parents and the Friends of Fountains for covering the cost of the day. It was enjoyed by all.
