Class 4 - Monday 22nd June

20 Jun 2020

Good Morning Class 4

Morning all, how are you today?

I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend?

Have a look at today's collective worship which I have put on our page; there's a story to read and an activity for you to do.

Please remember to send me examples of your work to the Purple Mash email or the class email address: class4@gfschools.co.uk.

These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time. yes

PE:

Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

https://www.harrogatessp.com/keeping-all-young-people-active/

Maths task:

We are going to use BBC bitesize for our maths this morning; it is about subtracting decimals.

Read through the examples and explanations, and then have a go at an activity or two.

You can find it all at this link:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zk4kvwx

I have also created a tournament on tt rockstars for boys versus girls. It is 2-1 to the girls so far so let's see who wins today! The tournament will run from 9am to 3.30pm.

Spelling task:

Can you read or listen to the poem at the below link:
https://childrens.poetryarchive.org/poem/cosmic-disco/

I would like you to identify any space related words from the poem. I would then like you to practise spelling any of the words you are unsure how to spell correctly. You could also draw some illustrations to represent these words too.

Writing task:

A chance to use your imagination this morning!

I would like you to pretend that you have woken up to find an alien at the end of your bed. I'd like you to write a detailed description of the alien. Think about its size, appearance and the sounds it makes.

It'd be great if you could draw it too!

I'd love to receive some of your work through the class email, so I can share it later in the week.

Reading task:

Nothing has changed here...I still want you to read for 30 minutes! Remember to keep doing the AR quizzes when you complete a book as you would do at school. Follow the link below:

https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

If you have run out of books to read, then visit the enrichment page on our website and read the 'what can I read next?' article.

Learning project:

The focus for this week's project is 'space'.

The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about space. Learning may focus on our Solar System, the Sun and the Moon. It could look at life in outer space from the view of an astronaut and travelling through space.

Choose one of these projects to start this afternoon. smiley

●  Moon Moves - For this task you should research the importance of the Moon to life on Earth. You could research the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth and create a model of the Earth, Moon and Sun. The link below might help.

https://safeyoutube.net/w/miF6

 ● Through Space and Time- You should research space exploration history and create a timeline of how people have travelled into space. Think about when the first rocket was launched? When did the first man travel to space? How about the first woman? What other significant events can you add to your timeline?

 ● Connect the Dots- Can you examine the different life stages of a star, and explore the names and shapes of some famous constellations. Then you should create a poster displaying the different constellations which can be used to teach others. Try to make it as creative as possible. The link below might help.

https://www.ducksters.com/science/physics/constellations.php

 ● Dancing into Space- Have a listen to Holst’s 'The Planets' (at the below link). You should select a planet and decide what you think that planet would be like. Can you create a dance/ set of movements to go with the music which will portray this. Take a video of your dance to share with your family and have a go at self-evaluating whilst watching the video.

 ● Mission to Space- Can you research the different components of a spacecraft and using your understanding of this, design your own spacecraft. Think carefully about what it needs to include in order for astronauts to survive in space. Can you make a small scale model using resources from around the home? There might be inspiration at the below link:

Have a great day everyone.

Take care
