Story Writing in Class Three
21 Mar 2024
Another productive week in Class Three! The children have worked really hard in their mock SATs this week. This practice week is really reassuring; showing the children what to expect when we have our real SATs tests in May.
This week the children have also been authors of their own short stories. Throughout this half term we have been inspired by a short advertising advert used by the BBC to promote the winter Olympics. The video is very cinematic and has a wonderful poem "The Dreadful Menace" spoken over it.
We have been building up to this writing for several weeks, learning new skills, exploring figurative language and building their vocabulary banks ready for their story! The children planned their stories in three strands - plot, characters and setting. After doing this they then wrote a blurb for their narrative. The blurbs were brilliantly written, full of suspense and drama!
The children then poured their creative efforts into bringing their plans to life! They have done really well... plenty of action and suspense to be found on this cold mountain setting! A selection are shown below:
Our final step in this writing journey will be to fully edit and redraft parts of our story! We have already begun this by checking our sentence punctuation and sentence construction. In the following pictures you can see how we have highlighted the first word in each of our sentences. This helps the children to see if they are using a variety of sentences and also to identify if they have maybe missed a full stop, or two!
I look forward to sharing their final short stories after Easter.
Many thanks for all your support during what has been a very busy if short, spring term! Have a wonderful Easter Holiday together and we will look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 9th April.
