Class Three- Maths and Red Nose Day
14 Mar 2024
It was lovely to talk to so many parents this week at Parents Evening, we hope you find the time useful.
This half term the children in Class 3 have worked so hard in maths. It has been a short half term but we have covered fractions, decimals and percentages. The year 6s have also managed to fit in some revision of the maths we did at the start of the year.
When working on fractions we looked at simplfying, making equivalent fractions, changing improper fractions into mixed numbers and visa versa, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and finished with finding a fraction of an amount.
Next came decimals, we recapped our place value knowledge ensuring we understood what each of the columns after the decimal point meant, we converted decimals into fractions, we added and subtracted decimals and then moved onto multiplying and dividing them.
More recently we have been working on percentages, undertsanding that percent is out of 100, converting percentages into fractions and decimals, making equivalent fractions; decimals and percentages, adding and subtracting decimals and then multiplying and dividing decimals.
On Friday it was Red Nose Day, the Charity Committee organised the day. We dressed in red and brought in £1 for charity.
We started the day doing different Red Nose Day puzzles.
At break time the committee ran a brilliant cake sale, thank you so much for your yummy donations. We will share the total amount raised on the website next week.
Next week in school is assessment week, the Year 6 children will be doing mock SATs. We will be trying to make this as close to the real thing will be in May. At the same time the Year 5s will be doing their Spring Hodder tests.
Have a great weekend!
