Class Three- PE and First Aid
17 Jan 2024
This week we wanted to share our work in PE with you.
The children have begun a really fun Dance unit with Mrs Lewis this half term. We are creating a "Dance by Chance." This is based on the style of dance created by Merce Cunningham, who was a dancer and choreographer in America. We used our school phone number to help us randomly choose the 8 different actions!
We are now developing our dance by thinking about the dynamics of our actions - again by chance! It has been a challenging way of choreographing a dance and we are developing our flow next week whilst using a steady count to keep our dancers in time.
We have Mr Whitford, from Sporting Influence, for PE on Thursdays and this half term we are doing hockey. With the weather this week the children asked if we could do ice hockey instead of regular hockey, unfortunately the risk assessment wouldn't allow that, so instead we looked at skills which would be in both hockey and benchball.
We focused on moving and making the most of the space around us. We also talked about the importance of using control, both when moving and when passing. We practised recieving the pass, finally we put these skills into a game and next week we will link these to hockey.
As well as delivering our super PE lessons Sporting Influence also came in on Thursday and took each class for a lesson about First Aid. The children learnt invaluable skills. They were engaged and enjoyed the practical aspects of this. We hope they won't need to use these new skills but I am sure you will agree it is a brilliant thing to be taught.
They covered the first things to do when you come across an accident. DR ABC, can they tell you what each letter means?
As part of this process the children had a go at carrying out CPR on both an adult and a child casualty.
We then looked at choking and how we would help someone who was choking.
