Class Three- DT Food Technology
23 Oct 2023
We finished this long half term with a great day on Wednesday. We spent the whole day looking at Food Technology.
Our theme was Harvest and Seasonality and within that we were asked to make a savoury scone.
We began the day by learning about seasonality.
Next we tasted different scones and fillings, to get ideas for what we would make ourselves. We evaluated the exisiting products by appearance, taste and texture.
After conducting the important taste tests we began desigining our own scones. What would go in them? What shape would they be? What filling would be add to them once they were baked? We drew our designs and annotated them, so we could refer back to them in the afternoon.
Then came the messy part, we began to make our scones. We carefully followed the recipe; weighing out the exact amount of ingredients and practising each of the baking techniques. Our hands were covered in scone mixture, but we used flour to absorb the moisture and help the mixture come off our hands. But it was all worth it, look at our brilliant creations!
We had to wait for the scones to cool before we could then apply our fillings.
The final stage of the DT project was the evaluation, we thought about what had gone well, how we could improve things if we were to do it again and graded our products on different criteria. We took our other scones home to enjoy with our families.
Have a lovely half term!
