Year 5 and 6- RE
20 Sep 2023
On Tuesday 10 of the children took part in a football competition. They battled the elements and had a great time, it was brilliant to see the children working so hard and displacing great communication and teamwork skills. Our hardwork and determination paid off and we finished second out of all the schools taking part.
In RE this half term our big question is "Why do some people believe God exisits?"
So far we have looked at how many people believe in God around the world. How many people follow different religions and then we looked more closely at our own country and the religious beliefs that are found in the UK.
We talked about what the words agnostic and atheist mean and the children then thought and discussed reasons why people may or may not believe in God.
In our next lesson we thought about Christians in particular. As a class we talked about the fact that people don't know what God looks like and instead describe using his personality. We explored the Bible to find metaphors for God including 'rock,' 'father,' 'shepherd' and 'spirit'
The children created 'Wanted' posters for those searching for God.
Before the lesson ended we thought about how medieval thinkers described God using the negative method and described by what he was not. The children came up with lots of suggestions.
God is not mean.
God is not unkind.
God is not boastful.
God is not Judging.
God is not dishonest.
Have a great weekend!
