Year 5 and 6- Week Two - Maths and Guided Reading
14 Sep 2023
The weather may have changed greatly from last week but the children's effort and engagement has continued to be as good as it was last week.
We have read another chapter of our Guided Reading book, Kensuke's Kingdom. This week we focused on chapter 2. Once we had read the chapter we discussed any unfamiliar vocab and discussed with our partner what had happened during the chapter. We then wrote a summary of what we have read so far. Next lesson we are going to start by sharing these with each other.
In maths we have moved on from Roman numerals and time and have began our first full unit. For the next few weeks we are looking at place value. The Year 6s will be looking at place value up to 10 million and the year 5s up to 1 million.
During this week's work we have looked at 10,000 and 100,000 numbers. Then we looked at numbers up to 1,000,000 and 10,000,000. When looking at these numbers, we have practised writing them in both numerals and in words. We practised reading these numbers aloud. We then moved on to partioning the numbers into millions, hundred thousands, ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.
Our homework this weekend will give us another opportunity to practise this.
Have a great weekend!
