Year 5 & 6 - First Week Back
07 Sep 2023
We have had such a lovely first week in Year 5 and 6. The children have been great, worked hard and been keen to begin their learning.
We have certainly hit the ground running.
In maths we have looked at Roman Numerals and then time.
In Guided Reading we are going to be reading Kensuke's Kingdom. In our first session we made predictions on what the story might be about using the blurb and the front cover as clues. We then read chapter one and after discussing what had happened and exploring any unfamiliar language we answered retrieval questions about it. Retrieval questions are ones where the answer can be found if we look carefully in the text.
We had PE with Mr Whitford, in PE we are going to be doing football this half term. In our first lesson we focused on control, accuracy and communication. We dribbled the ball around showing control, passed the ball through 'gates' to develop accuracy and then played a game of 3 a side to practise our communication.
Our big question in RE is 'why do some people believe in God?' we took some time in our first week to write down our initial ideas to answer this question. We will answer the question again at the end of our unit and work to see how our knowledge and answers have developed.
On Friday we were given our first spelling list to learn and maths homework to complete. We need to hand these in by next Friday. We have sorted out the buddies, classroom monitors and the children have begun to think about which committee they want to be on this year.
Have a lovely weekend!
