Our visit to the Mosque
28 Jun 2022
On Tuesday, we visited the Keighley Markazi Jamai Mosque to bring to life our world faith learning this year about the Islamic faith.
When we arrived at the Mosque, we first looked at it from outside. We noticed the huge green dome and the very high minaret tower, where traditionally the call for prayer would come from. The Mosque has increased in size over the years and now is one of the larger mosques in this country.
We then went inside and took our shoes off, once we had stored them on the shoe racks, we entered the mosque.

We heard all about the Muslims' worship within the mosque and how Friday is a very special day for their religion. We saw where the Iman sits and the prayer mats that all the Muslims use; we heard why they are all pointing in the same direction too. We practised sitting in lines as Muslims do, which demonstrates their belief that everyone is equal.
Later on, we explored other areas of the mosque. There was an incredible chandelier hanging down from the main dome, which the children were mesmerised with.

We visited the room where Muslim children go to learn about the Quran after a day at school, and a few of our children wore the clothes that Muslim men and women wore during Hajj (their pilgrimage to Mecca).

We had the most wonderful visit and it really brought our learning about Islam to life. The children's behaviour was impeccable, they surprised our guides with their knowledge, and asked really thoughtful questions. It was a great day!
