The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
25 May 2022
We have had a wonderful week in school celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Whether we have been working in class or together as a school in our Teams, our learning has been based on this momentous event.
On Monday, we began by creating a non-choronological report about Queen Elizabeth II. We planned our writing by considering the purpose and audience for it and then we looked at which features we should include. We decided that we would include information about Elizabeth II's life as well as her family. Here is some of our work...
We then moved on to focus on the Queen's roles and responsibilities as Head of State. We discovered many of the jobs she does day to day, and we recorded these on the outlines of the Queen below. We enjoyed finding out about all that the Queen does, and we were surprised at how many different roles she has.
We felt it was important to look at all that had changed and developed over the Queen's 70 year reign and so we created some timelines. The children chose to focus on technology, transport, music and fashion.
The children then chose a decade to focus more closely on, and found out what life was like then in all of those categories. It was really interesting to do when the eldest child in the class was born in 2010!
On Thursday, we took part in Jubilee workshops which included decorating celebratory plates to mark this special occasion, and dancing through the decades. We all really enjoyed both of these activities and we were very proud of the plates we were able to take home.
Over the course of this week, we have spent lots of time in our Teams which we always really enjoy. On Tuesday, we spent the day preparing for our afternoon tea event today. The children decided on their menu for the event, invitations and decorations. They also learnt about some of the different music which has spanned the 70 years.
Our week culminated in our Jubilee afternoon tea event today, which was enjoyed by all. The children really enjoyed making the sandwiches and other delicious treats that they had chosen for their menu in their Teams. Here are a few photos for you to have a look at.
Wishing Seth, Tom H, Chloe H and Abbey a very Happy holiday Birthday!
I hope you all have a lovely half term, and I will see you all back on Monday 6th June. Take care and thank you for all of your hard work this half term. xx
