Lots of beginnings...
17 Sep 2021
We have had another great week in Class 4! I am really proud of all the children for how well they have settled back into school, and for how sensible, mature and hard working they are. We have started lots of our new units in a variety of subjects this week.
We have also had some wonderful lessons in those that we started last week, such as English. We have been reading a book called 'Tuesday' which is really more of a picture book. It is a tale of frogs flying on lily pads in the middle of the night! The children have really enjoyed exploring it, and this week we have used it as the stimulus in our grammar work. They have written some very interesting sentences about the pages, whilst being aware of the word class of words.
In History, we have explored the impact of the Battle of Bosworth on the beginning of the Tudor reign, and have delved into the Tudor family tree. There were quite a few surprises, such as the Henry VIII and his brother Arthur having the same wife, at different times of course!
Our new unit for PSHE is 'being me in my world' where we began by agreeing on a charter that we will all stick to during PSHE lessons. We then played friendship bingo and considered what our greatest achievements were. The children then created a piece of bunting each which includes their hopes and wishes for the year ahead. There were a huge variety of hopes, from seeing an armadillo to facing a fear of heights- you can see the bunting in our classroom.
Then finally in RE, we have started our unit titled, 'why do some people believe in God and others do not'. We began by exploring different views and deciding which group of people those viewpoints would most likely fit with. We also looked at all the different religions represented in the UK and in Yorkshire. We were suprised by some of the proportions.
Just a quick note to let you know that I have had to changed our spelling day. Spellings will usually be given out on a Wednesday and are due back on the next Wednesday. Maths homework will continue to be Friday to Friday. However, the children have recieved a small spelling task today which will be due back on Wednesday. If the children have any problems with their homework, then please ask them to bring it to school with them and I will help them with it. Thank you.
