Timelines and Teamwork!

We have had another lovely week in school.
This week, we started to investigate into our History work; we are going to be learning about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. To begin with, we looked at the chronology of different historical periods. We worked in small groups to put periods such as, the Stone Age, The Romans, The Normans, The Tudors, The Victorians in order on a timeline. The children did really well, and were able to build upon the work we had done in Autumn term about the Romans.
We then used our footsteps to go back in time to the end of the Roman era and the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon era. We discussed other historical events that we know about which happened along the way back to 449AD. We used language such as century, decade, millenium and also recapped the meaning behind AD and BC and their modern equivalents.
In our RE unit, What would Jesus do, we were looking at the Gospel text from Matthew 7:24 - 27 which is about the two builders, one who built his house on rock and the other who built his house on sand. The children had a go at building their own structures with either sand or modelling clay as a base - the group with the sand definitely had the most difficult time! We then went on to discuss how having strong foundations for life is really important, and we then considered what values and activities we thought provided us with strong foundations for our lives.
