Class 4 - Monday 1st June
30 May 2020
Good Morning Class 4
Hi everyone, how are you all? I hope you all had a lovely half term week.
The weather has been amazing! I hope you've all enjoyed it, and have had lots of fresh air. We have had a lot of time in the paddling pool here, and a lot of ice cream! Oli and Jana, I hope you both had a lovely birthday.
It's your last Monday at home for a lot of you today, so make the most of being able to do your work in your pjs! I am still missing you all, and so I look forward to hearing from you today.
As it is a Monday, we'll start with a video clip to watch. I know we've seen this one before in class in a grammar lesson, but it's funny and always makes me smile. So hopefully it will make you smile too.

I have even managed to get Will to like Shrek now too!
Remember that if you would like to send me examples of your work, or simply want to tell/ ask me something then you can use Purple Mash email or the class email address: class4@gfschools.co.uk. I'm always happy to hear from you.
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Reading task:
Nothing has changed here...I still want you to read for 30 minutes! Remember to keep doing the AR quizzes when you complete a book as you would do at school. Follow the link below:

Well done to Tom C, Joel, Jasmine, Seth, Jana, Charlotte, Tom S and Jacob who met their Accelerated Reader target last half term. Woo hoo!
Maths task:
As you know, I am keen to ensure that you continue to focus on your times tables whilst you're at home, as they are so vital to many areas of maths.
Therefore today for maths, we are going to focus only on times tables. I want you to spend at least 20 minutes on ttrockstars. I have set up a battle for today, it's boys versus girls again - let's see who wins!! Come on girls; the boys won last time! The tournament will run from 9am to 3.30pm.
I have also set other sessions to see how you get on individually.
You should then spend 10/15 minutes on Sumdog. I will be checking that too to see how you're getting on.

Update at 2.15pm
With just over an hour to go, look how close it is! Keep going!
Spelling task:
I would like you to make a list of sport related noun phrases and/ or verbs to correspond with each letter of the alphabet. So for example, for 'a' you could have 'amazing acrobats', and 'b' could be 'bounce'.
You can record this in your exercise books or type it up.
Writing task:
It's postcard time again today! I would like you to write me a postcard as it would be great to hear what you've been up to. Include: any news you have from half term or before; any new skills you have acquired; anything you are or you're not looking forward to; or just how you are.
I have put a '2do' on Purple Mash for you to do this, or you can do it by hand or type it up. Here is the link for Purple Mash:

Being kind...
I'm sure you're all super good at this by now, not that I'm saying you weren't before! Just keep this in mind, and make sure you purposefully do something kind today to make someone else happy.
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'sport'.
The projects this week aim to provide opportunities for you to learn more about sports and games. Learning may focus on the history of sport, sporting-heroes, physical challenges and performances.
Choose one of these projects to start this afternoon.
● Sport Genius - Research about sporting history and see how many different facts you can find out about sports from the past. Create your own sporting trivia quiz which you can test out on members of your household. Or you could place different sporting events from the last 100 years onto a timeline.
● Sporting Heroes - Select your favourite sporting star. Then you should draw a portrait of them in the style of the famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein using felt tip pens or paint - you may need to research him first! Please send me you creation so I can share them all.
● Name that Sport - You could create an orienteering map of your home/garden. At each location you will need to create a question relating to a sport e.g. Which sport has the most rules? The answers can then be recorded on an orienteering sheet. Can you create an answer that begins with the letter of the next location? You can test it out on a family member.
● Beat It! - Begin by measuring your resting heart rate by counting how many beats in a minute. Then carry out an exercise e.g. running, skipping, star jumps etc. for 3 minutes. Once you have completed this you should carry out a recovery activity e.g. walking or sitting and see how long it takes for your heart rate to go back to normal. Repeat this with different recovery exercises to see which is the most effective at getting your heart rate back to normal the quickest. Can you create a way of showing your results?
● Anyone Can Be a Champion! - This activity is all about exploring the diversity of sport. You should research the history of the Paralympics. Discuss why we have the Paralympics. You should create a poster which presents the importance of the Paralympics and the range of different sports there are.
Have a great day everyone, and I really look forward to hearing from you and seeing what you've done.
Take care
