Good Morning Class 4
Happy Friday everyone!
A joke for you today...

The animal poems yesterday were superb - well done! There were a range of acrostic, kennings, haiku and narrative poems written about a variety of animals. A particular mention to Jasmine, Josh, Juliet, Ruby and Esther for their excellent work. Brilliant mymaths work again too.
Here are a couple of poems for you all to see:
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Maths task:
Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:
https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login
I have set you an activity each. There is one for the Year 5s (mental multiplication) and one for the Year 6s (multiply triple digits). There is a lesson for you to go through and then there are questions to answer at the end. I will then be able to see how you've got on. If you have any problems then please let me know.
Reading task:
Reading is the most important task I put on here so please make sure you do it, even if you don't do everything else!
Your reading task is to read for 30 minutes today. You should use your reading book for AR. Remember, when you complete a book, you can still do your AR quiz as you normally would at school. Follow the link below:

Well done to the following children who have already earnt points towards this half term's target by quizzing: Lexi, Tom C, Joel, Jasmine, Charlotte, Josh, Tom S and Jacob.
Spelling task:
Please can you choose 5 words at random from the appropriate spelling list below. Please choose words that you haven't used before. I would like you to find out the meaning of your 5 words so that you fully understand them, and then I would like you to write a short tale or story that includes these 5 words. You need to use them in the correct context so that your tale makes sense.
I have set up a 2do task on Purple Mash for this if you would like to do it on there, or you can do it in your exercise book. Please underline the 5 spellings (or write them in a different colour) and draw me a picture that links to the tale/story.

Writing task:
I would like you to design your own animal! It can be a mixture of a couple of existing animals or something completely new; use your imagination! I would like you to draw an image of your own animal, and then add labels to your animal to describe its features.
I'd then like you to write a paragraph to describe what your animal eats, where it lives, how it survives etc. You can complete this in your exercise book.
Being kind...
Today, I'd like you to think about your community. What could you do to be kind to someone in your community? Could you do some art work for someone who may need cheering up? Or write a letter? Think about the people who may be lonely or struggling at the moment, what could you do to cheer them up?
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'animals'.
The projects this week aim to provide you with opportunities to learn more about animals that you are interested in. Your learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.
This afternoon, you can either carry on with the project you started yesterday or you can choose a different one to do.
● Animals and their Environment- You should describe how animals such as emperor penguins, chimpanzees and orcas have adapted to suit their environment. You can do this by writing a short summary after carrying out some research. After this, you can design a new wondrous animal that has evolved to suit its environment considering the environmental changes it has had to face over recent years.
● Where Animals Originate From - You should locate on a world map where different animals originate from and research why they live in these environments. Things to consider when researching why they originally lived in these countries are:
○ Food sources
○ Climate
○ Weather
○ Terrain
After doing this, you should think about how the animals you have selected have adapted so that they are able to live in the UK. Present your findings as a poster or in a PowerPoint presentation.
● Life Cycles - You should research a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird. You can then choose one and draw the life cycle of an animal and label the diagram accordingly. How does the life cycle of the chosen animal differ to a human life cycle?
● Animal Prints- Using a variety of media (this could be materials from around the house such as cloth, newspapers or magazines, felt, etc.), you could create animal prints for a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird of your choice. After, you can create a collage of the animal prints you have made. You could always use a pencil or pen to sketch the animal prints!
● The Life of Darwin- Who was Charles Darwin? Research the scientist’s theory on evolution. Where are the Galapagos Islands? What species did and do still live there? What makes these animals unique and extraordinary? Write a biography about the life of Charles Darwin.
Happy weekend to all of you! I hope you have a lovely time, and I'll speak to you all on Monday.
Sending lots of love,
Mrs Barker
