Class 4 - Thursday 30th April
28 Apr 2020
Good Morning Class 4
How are you all today? Missing me? Ha ha! Well I'm missing you!
Did you guess the answer to my riddle yesterday?
'What can you hear, but not see or touch, even though you control it?'
The answer is 'your voice'. Well done Jacob and Charlotte who I know got it right.
Super Wednesday work yesterday...I'm looking forward to seeing what you do today.
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Maths task:
Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:
https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login
I have set you an activity each. There is one for the Year 5s (squares and cubes) and one for the Year 6s (addition and subtraction problems). There is a lesson for you to go through and then there are questions to answer at the end. I will then be able to see how you've got on. If you have any problems then please let me know.
Reading task:
Reading is the most important task I put on here so please make sure you do it, even if you don't do everything else!
Your reading task is to read for 30 minutes today. You should use your reading book for AR. Remember, when you complete a book, you can still do your AR quiz as you normally would at school. Follow the link below:

Grammar task:
I have attached a link to two grammar activity sheets. There is one for each year group and so please choose the one which is appropriate to you. You can record the answers in your exercise books, and I will put the answers up tomorrow so that you can mark what you've done.
-Year 5 grammar 4.docx-
-Year 6 grammar 4.docx-
Writing task:
For this task, you should use the animal you chose to use yesterday for your spelling task. The words and phrases you recorded will be helpful to you today.
Think about how your animal moves, what sounds it makes and the environment that it lives in. You should then write a poem based around these ideas. You can choose any type of poem to write, but your poem should be about your animal.
You can do this in your exercise book or on Purple Mash; I have set up a '2do'. I don't mind which you do.

Being kind...
What could you do today to be helpful? I would like you to do something to help a member of your family. It doesn't have to be something huge; it just needs to be helpful. I'd love to hear what you are doing to be kind each day.
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'animals'.
The projects this week aim to provide you with opportunities to learn more about animals that you are interested in. Your learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.
This afternoon, you can either carry on with the project you started yesterday or you can choose a different one to do.
● Animals and their Environment- You should describe how animals such as emperor penguins, chimpanzees and orcas have adapted to suit their environment. You can do this by writing a short summary after carrying out some research. After this, you can design a new wondrous animal that has evolved to suit its environment considering the environmental changes it has had to face over recent years.
● Where Animals Originate From - You should locate on a world map where different animals originate from and research why they live in these environments. Things to consider when researching why they originally lived in these countries are:
○ Food sources
○ Climate
○ Weather
○ Terrain
After doing this, you should think about how the animals you have selected have adapted so that they are able to live in the UK. Present your findings as a poster or in a PowerPoint presentation.
● Life Cycles - You should research a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird. You can then choose one and draw the life cycle of an animal and label the diagram accordingly. How does the life cycle of the chosen animal differ to a human life cycle?
● Animal Prints- Using a variety of media (this could be materials from around the house such as cloth, newspapers or magazines, felt, etc.), you could create animal prints for a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird of your choice. After, you can create a collage of the animal prints you have made. You could always use a pencil or pen to sketch the animal prints!
● The Life of Darwin- Who was Charles Darwin? Research the scientist’s theory on evolution. Where are the Galapagos Islands? What species did and do still live there? What makes these animals unique and extraordinary? Write a biography about the life of Charles Darwin.
Have another great day Class 4.
Take care
