Class 4 - Tuesday 28th April
27 Apr 2020
Good Morning Class 4
Happy Tuesday everyone.
I've got a joke for you this morning...it's a really good one!!
'What do you call a penguin in the desert?'
(Scroll to the bottom of the page for the answer.)
Awesome work yesterday Class 4. It was great to see more of you logging on and using the mymaths website. There were quite a few of you who got full marks so well done...you know who you are. I'm looking forward to seeing your work today. I saw a few examples of the project work some of you did and it was excellent! Charlotte, Tom C and Tom S in particular.
These are your tasks for today. Remember, you can do the tasks in any order, and you don't have to do everything if you don't have time.
PE:
Have a look at the below link. There are lots of ideas for different PE type activities that you could do at home; give one a go!

Maths task:
Please login to the mymaths website using your login details. You can use the link below:
https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login
I have set you an activity each. There is one for the Year 5s (multiplying by 10 and 100) and one for the Year 6s (place value beyond 10 000). There is a lesson for you to go through and then there are questions to answer at the end. I will then be able to see how you've got on. If you have any problems then please let me know.
Reading task:
Reading is the most important task I put on here, and so please make sure you do it, even if you don't do everything else. Well done to Charlotte, Josh, Tom S, Jacob, Jasmine, Joel and Lexi who have already earnt points towards their targets by quizzing. Super work!
Your reading task is to read for 30 minutes today. You should use your reading book for AR. Remember, when you complete a book, you can still do your AR quiz as you normally would at school. Follow the link below:

Spelling task:
I would like you to choose 5 words from the appropriate spelling list. I would then like you to write a synonym and an antonym of each word. I would also like you to write a sentence to explain the meaning of each word.
-Year 5 and 6 common exception words.doc-
-2nd 100 high frequency words .pdf-
Writing task:
Choose an animal - it could be your favourite animal or one you have as a pet. I would like you to write a set of instructions explaining the steps people should take to look after it. Think about what the animal eats, what exercise it needs, where it is kept, what equipment you need to look after it etc.
There is an example set of instructions below as well as a document to explain the aim and features of instruction writing.
I have set up a '2do' on Purple Mash if you'd like to complete it on there or you could do it on word or powerpoint or in your exercise book. It's entirely up to you. I would like to have a read of some of them so if you can send them to me that would be great.

Being kind...
I would like you to do something kind and helpful today. It could be to tidy your bedroom or to make lunch for your family or help your sibling with something they can't do. Do something kind to make someone else feel happy.
Learning project:
The focus for this week's project is 'animals'.
The projects this week aim to provide you with opportunities to learn more about animals that you are interested in. Your learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.
This afternoon, you can either carry on with the project you started yesterday or you can choose a different one to do.
● Animals and their Environment- You should describe how animals such as emperor penguins, chimpanzees and orcas have adapted to suit their environment. You can do this by writing a short summary after carrying out some research. After this, you can design a new wondrous animal that has evolved to suit its environment considering the environmental changes it has had to face over recent years.
● Where Animals Originate From - You should locate on a world map where different animals originate from and research why they live in these environments. Things to consider when researching why they originally lived in these countries are:
○ Food sources
○ Climate
○ Weather
○ Terrain
After doing this, you should think about how the animals you have selected have adapted so that they are able to live in the UK. Present your findings as a poster or in a PowerPoint presentation.
● Life Cycles - You should research a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird. You can then choose one and draw the life cycle of an animal and label the diagram accordingly. How does the life cycle of the chosen animal differ to a human life cycle?
● Animal Prints- Using a variety of media (this could be materials from around the house such as cloth, newspapers or magazines, felt, etc.), you could create animal prints for a mammal, an insect, an amphibian, a reptile and a bird of your choice. After, you can create a collage of the animal prints you have made. You could always use a pencil or pen to sketch the animal prints!
● The Life of Darwin- Who was Charles Darwin? Research the scientist’s theory on evolution. Where are the Galapagos Islands? What species did and do still live there? What makes these animals unique and extraordinary? Write a biography about the life of Charles Darwin.
I hope you all have a lovely day. Remember to send me any examples of the work you have done.
Missing you all.
