Class 2 - Y3 & Y4 Home Learning

Homework in Class 2 - September 2023

29 Aug 2023

There is an expectation at Fountains that the children read regularly at home and in school. The children will bring home their reading book and record book every day They must bring the books back to school the following day. To try to encourage reading at home, we are asking you to sign your child’s reading record and they will then get a dojo point for each time they read at home. As their confidence grows, they may read to themselves and not to you, but please would you still sign their reading record book.

The children will be given a list of spellings to learn each week. These will consist of five words which follow a ruleThey will be tested on these five words and there will also be some additional words on the test which follow the same rule. To practise these, the children need to fill in a practise sheet and write a sentence for each word to show that they understand the meaning. The practise sheet should be filled in five times over the seven days. It is important to practise on five separate occasions rather than just filling all five columns at once.
In Class Two, there will be a focus on ensuring the children know their times tables and in the summer of Year Four the children will sit a Multiplication Assessment To support them with this learning, the maths homework in Class Two will be times tables based. Each week, on Friday, we will do a quick multiplication test, lasting 72 seconds where the children get 12 jumbled multiplication questions on the times table they have been practising. Once they get 12 out of 12 for 2 consecutive weeks, they then move onto the next times table.

To aid them with this we are going to use 2 methods:

  • Multiples question cards
  •      TTRockstars

From Friday to Friday, the children need to complete 15 sessions - 1 session is 1 minute. They can do these in 1 go or ideally spread out over the week. Anyone who completes significantly more than 15 will be rewarded with dojo points. If you have any problems with this or the website, please speak to Miss Wray.
