DT summer project & engineering competition 23-24
19 Jul 2023
On Tuesday, we launched an introduction to next years design and technology competition ‘if you were an engineer what would you do? This is a UK wide engineering competition for all children aged 3-19 and we would love for all children in the federation to have the chance to enter their ideas. We launched the competitions with discussions on what engineering is, examples of how things have been engineered and why products have been created: to help make things easier, more efficient, safer etc.
Students have been sent home with a home discovery logbook. Over the summer we hope that your children will have time to simply observe what’s happening in life and find a problem to fix – they have been provided with a space to jot any ideas down and we will pick these ideas back up in the autumn term. We have already been wowed with some of the ideas already suggested today, such as: the ear plug that controls ear pressure on a flight; the lifelike robot that will allow children to talk about their feelings; the wheelchair that provides rain cover and heat to the user; and the chicken nugget that keeps growing to combat world hunger.

Good luck in your observations.
