Sports Day
30 Jun 2023
Thank you to everyone who came to support us all in our sports day event for 2023. I think its safe to say we all had a great time. It was great to see all the children having a go at some new skills and sports on the carousel as well as all trying their hardest when joining in with the traditional sports day races.
The points at the end of our 2023 Sports Day, as already announced by Mrs Acheson, were as follows:
- Ruby Red Rhinos – 308 points
- Blue Diamonds – 286 points
- Everlasting Emeralds – 285 points
- Estrellas – 245 points
Points were awarded for the following reasons: 5 points for first place in any running/skipping/egg and spoon/sack or bean bag race, 4 points for second place, 3 points for third place and 1 point for any other finisher. Well done to all children who joined in and earnt points for their teams in the races; it was fantastic to see the determination on your faces to do your best and great to hear the support from the crowd – well done.
It was great to see all children get involved in this year’s relay race to finish off the afternoon with double place points up for grabs. The water race sounds to have been a favourite, with great teamwork shown by all to fill the trays with water in the fastest possible time.
Children at Fountains school are taught that physical education and sport is a great facilitator to develop social skills. During the sporting carousel sStaff members identified numerous children who were seen to have put these skills into practice. Each child that was seen to be a stand out performer of these skills also earnt 5 points for their team. Well done to the below children who were identified this year:

Thank you to all pupils involved in making this year’s sports day a very enjoyable experience with their fantastic behaviour and team spirt; thank you for all the children’s grown-ups for showing their support in an encouraging and supportive manner; thank you for all the school staff for all their help setting up, organising the afternoon and making the experience enjoyable for all: and finally, Mr Whitford, for practicing the skills with us running up the day itself to ensure we all felt ready and fully prepared to put in our best performances on the day.
Moving forward, we hope to continue to tailor our PE provision to the children at Fountains and we would appreciate the children’s opinions and ideas of how best to do this. Thank you to all children and grown ups who have already filled in the questionnaire for sport and PE at school – please if you are still to do so, use the form at the link to download the questionnaire and email it or hand it in at the office.
