World Book Day 2023!
06 Mar 2023
On Thursday 2nd March, it was World Book Day - one of our favourite days of the year!
The children and staff went to magnificent efforts with their book character dressing up! There were a huge range of characters on show and everyone had clearly put a lot of thought and effort into their costumes. Did you notice the theme that ran through all of the staff costumes? Could you tell which Mr Men/ Little Miss character they were?
Well done everyone on super costumes!
We started the day with a Collective Worship all about books! We thought about our first memories of books, and considered where we most like to read. The children looked wonderful together all in the hall.
The reading mentors worked hard to plan activities for the day. One activity they asked the children to do was to design an image to go on a 'Reader of the week' certificate that they want to introduce. They then chose the winners themselves. They also gave out some prizes for the book character costumes that the children were wearing.

Later on in the morning, the children spent time with their reading buddies. I say this every time, but there is nothing better than seeing the children of all different ages share books together. It is priceless!
Throughout the day, the children also had the opportunity to take part in other book related activities, such as designing bookmarks. The children in Class 2 took part in a draw along where they listened to an author, Swapna Haddow, read a section of her book. They then worked with an illustrator, Sheena Dempsey, to draw their own illustrations for the book.
The children in Key Stage 2 had the opportunity to watch a live lesson hosted by the BBC. They explored lots of different genres of stories, and even got to hear from Michael Rosen!
A great day was had by all celebrating reading for pleasure.
