Our School Trip - Jewish Synagogue & National Media Museum
01 Mar 2023
On Tuesday 28th February, Classes 2, 3 and 4 along with lots of school staff embarked on a visit to Bradford. On our itinerary was a visit to the only Jewish Synagogue in Bradford - the Bradford Reform Synagogue and a visit to the National Science and Media Museum.
As there were so many of us on the trip, we split in half for the majority of the day. The younger group of children visited the Jewish Synagogue first while the older children travelled straight to the Media Museum, and then both groups swapped over before coming back together later in the day.
We were lucky to have a Faith Tutor called Nigel show us around and teach us about the Jewish Synagogue. He was very impressed with the children's knowledge of Judaism as they were able to confidently share the facts they had previously learnt.
Nigel taught us about the history of the Bradford Synagogue and the children spent time loooking around and were able to ask any questions they had. Nigel allowed the children to get the Torah out of the Ark and they discussed how it was written in Hebrew and read from right to left which is the opposite to how we read. Nigel used a Yad to read a section of the Torah in Hebrew to the children, and he also shared the Hebrew alphabet with them. Nigel explained about the cushions that were on the pews; they all replicated part of the Synagogue or a story in the Torah. The children enjoyed looking at them.
At the Science and Media Museum, there were lots of galleries and exhibitions to visit. A firm favourite with most was the Wonderlab! The Wonderlab is all about experimenting with the science of light and sound through a range of fun, interactive exhibits. There was a mirror maze which caused lots of amusement and was enjoyed by all; a 15 metre long tube which the children could hear the echo of their voice through; a time twister screen which made us all look very different; and many more.
Some of the other exhibitions that the children visited included the animation gallery, the kodak gallery and the experience TV exhibition.
We all had a great day, and enjoyed the new experiences that the visit gave us. We were really proud of the children's behaviour throughout the day, and we look forward to building on this learning in school.
