Football
24 May 2023
Thankfully the weather is now improving and the children are enjoying having more opportunities to play on the school field. Some of you may be aware that we made the decision to have a break from football over the last few weeks as there had been a rise in incidents relating to unsafe play despite staff working with the children to develop rules and structures. Many of the children love to play football. It is a competitive sport and we want the children to have this as a game of choice at playtimes but we are going to put a structure in place after half term to reintroduce football to ensure that all children get the opportunity to play safely. The children have different abilities in football and different levels of confidence so the structure will help us support the children and will help us to embed safe rules and choices. We will review this after two weeks.
There will be a defined area with goals in one area of the field. Each class will take it in turns to access this area:
Monday - Class 1
Tuesday - Class 2
Wednesday- Class 3
Thursday- Class 4
Friday- Girls
There will be additional playtime resources and games put out and organised for the rest of the children so that they are active and learning new skills and challenges at the same time. It will also be an opportunity for Sports Crew members to teach a new skill to their peers and organise games and activities for the younger children.
