Class Three Super Science
19 Apr 2024
During the spring half term we enjoyed a focus on Science and began this term finishing off our learning journey before embarking on our learning about the ancient Maya. (More about that soon!)
Our learning focus has been on materials. The children have investigated different properties including thermal insulators and electrical conductivity. Before then delving into the process of dissolving. The children planned and conducted their own investigations into what would affect the rate of dissolving. They did very well and worked scientifcally together in small groups.
To bring our learning journey to a close, the children produced a piece of writing to explain the difference between reversible and irreversible changes in materials. This also enabled them to draw on their learning from Year 3 and 4 when they learnt about states of matter. I think you will agree, they did a very good job of demonstrating their understanding in a clear and interesting way.
During this week we also had a workshop with the NSPCC. The children approached this session with a mature and reflective attitiude and made us very proud. The workshop taught the children the importance of talking to a trusted adult in school or at home when they have problems that feel a bit too big. The NSPCC child line service is available for children 24/7.
Have a wonderful weekend. We look forward to seeing you Monday for another packed week of learning!
