For the past two weeks in English we have been looking at instructions. We explored why we have instructions and who would read them.
We then looked at lots of examples so we could identify the key features of this genre. Our next step of our writing journey was to look at grammar elements including: imperative verbs, adverbs, time conjunctions, prepositions and punctuation for lists.
The children then got into groups to come up with a simple game, which could be played by others. They created instructions for these games, deciding the intended audience would be someone in our class or a member of staff at school. There were a lot of layout features as well as the grammar techniques we had learnt about, but the children did a super job. Once they had written their instructions they shared them with their peers and edited their own work.
We are looking forward to sharing our playtime games with the other children and with our clear instructions everyone will know how to play the different games.
Have a lovely weekend!
