On a Tuesday, Class three have a topic Maths session with Mrs Lewis and Mrs Draper. In the lessons we have focused on topics like shape, space, perimeter and area. We work together taking small steps in our understanding until we have really mastered each topic. The children support their understanding using pictures and practical resources until they feel confident to have a go in the abstract.
Topic Maths has a lot of vocabulary to understand and remember and we are using our fluent in 4 to revisit vocabulary and ideas to keep it all fresh!
Since September the children have already learnt about all these ideas:
Angles – identifying different types, comparing and ordering,
Measuring and drawing accurately in cm and mm
Horizontal and vertical lines
Parallel and perpendicular lines
Polygons – identifying, drawing.
Lines of symmetry
2D shapes – properties
Quadrilaterals and triangles.
3D shapes – properties and names.
Area – classifying, counting and calculating
Area of rectilinear shapes
Perimeter
Km, cm, mm
Quite a list I think you will agree. Class 2 really are all superstars! Have a look at some of the types of questions we complete below. If you have any questions about our Maths please don’t hesitate to ask. We will be having a meeting soon about the upcoming Multiplication test that the Year 4 pupils will be taking, so keep an eye out for that!
