This week in Class 2…

This week in science we have come to the end of our science unit on states of matter. We explored using data loggers to find the temperature in different locations and of cold and warm water. We then revisited our investigation of what makes some materials melt and used the data loggers to try and record the temperature of ice, chocolate and butter as they begin to change state. We finished our topic with a quiz which we enjoyed and could show what we have learned.

In English we have been looking at poetry during our guided reading sessions. We looked at different styles of poems from nonsense poems, narrative poetry and rhyming verse. In these sessions we look at new vocabulary and answer questions based on the text t help us to understand why the writer chose different techniques. We also use fluency and expression to explore reading aloud.

In our writing this week, we have spent some time looking at shape poems and having a go at writing our own. We began by thinking of words linked to a theme using our senses to help us add descriptive details. Then we thought about any rhyme and simile we could include. The final stage was to record our poems in a shape to match our theme.
