This week in Class 2…

We have finished the half term with art week. This term, the art focus has been on drawing and mark making.

On Monday we began by thinking about sketching. We discussed what a sketch is and how artists use this to plan and develop their ideas.

We explored different pencil tones and thought about which tones might be useful in different parts of our art to create details such as line and shadow. Once we had explored, we had a go at using these tones to create an image.

On Tuesday, we looked at images of buildings designed by famous architects. Then we looked at the sketches that were made of these buildings to help us understand how sketches are used by artists to plan and experiment.

We have also explored colour mixing using crayons. We used shading techniques to colour and explore the different tones and colours we could make.

John Harrison is our local artist and we have used images made by him to guide our own work. We noticed he had three stages to his artwork. First he used pencil to sketch, second he added colour and finally he used ink to add definition to some elements.

We thought about images we have looked at this week and our own knowledge of the local area to design and create our final artwork using this style.
