Book reviews
14 Jul 2022
Over several weeks, we have been completing an author study of Julia Donaldson. We have spent a number of lessons reading some of her books and really familiarising ourselves with the story. We have focused on three of her books: The Gruffalo, The Smartest Giant in Town and Room on the Broom. The children have completed lots of activities around these stories and used them to spark some lovely writing.
This week, we have began to compare the stories, considering the similarities and differences in characters, setting and plot. The children then created a table to support their comparitive discussions. Later in the week, we finished our learning by choosing one story to write a book review about. We thought about what the story was about, who it was aimed at and whether we would recommend this book. The children formulated their ideas into a published format of a book review, which they were very proud of! The children have worked hard this year to improve their writing and these book reviews really show the progress they have made, well done class 2!
In RE, this half-term we have been working up to answering the big questions: "What makes a place sarced?" To do this we have learnt about Christianity, Islam and Judaism. We have covered lots of elements of these religions including, different places of worship, religious symbols and artefacts. The children have enjoyed this unit of learning and they have been very interested in learning about the way different religions pray and exploring inside religious buildings.
To begin to summarise our learning, today we sorted pictures of the different buildings and wrote down something we remember about the place of worship then began to have a discussion to compare the religions. We will be continuing to look at similarities and differences in more detail next week. To finish today's lesson, we wrote down something we know about each religion.
On Thursday, the children had a lovely transition afternoon! They have enjoyed meeting their teachers and joined in with some lovely activities including making drawing portraits, making peg labels and playing games. If they have any concerns over the next few weeks, please let us know so we can make the transition as smooth as possible for the children.
Have a lovely weekend.
