Lots of dancing

11 Jan 2022

Another busy week in class 2!

Our theme for most of this term is Geography in which we are considering the big question: Is it better to be too hot or too cold?
This week we have began considering this question by looking at severe weather. We investigated the effects of some severe weather such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards and droughts. The children enjoyed watching short clips of each of these and listening to people's experiences to gather a picture of what these severe weathers are really like. Then we made posters on some of these types of weather.

Later in the week, we began to think our hot and cold countries by first learning about what life is like there from some first-hand accounts. We listened to some accounts and picked out key features such as the weather and the clothes they wear which helped build a picture of their lifestyle. The children had very mixed views on whether they would like to live somewhere hot or cold. They saw the positives in both: lots of hot chocolate or icecream!

In English, we have been focusing on the story Giraffes Can't Dance. The children have loved this story. It is a very funny story! We have been identifying the rhyme within the story, with the hope of next week writing our own page for the story. This week, we began by identifying rhyming words and beginning to think of rhymes of our own.

Our story in English links very well with our PE as we are doing dance this half-term. The children have loved exploring movement over the last few weeks. They had some very interesting ways of getting around the hall! This week, we have built up to making patterns with our movements but they also wanted to try some of the dances from the story.

For sharing next week, we are still focusing on our big question: is it better to be too hot or too cold? We would like to invite  Seb, Isaac S, Scott, Lexi and Xander to share, if they want to show or tell us something.

Have a great weekend. Thank you for all of your hard work!
