Advent week 2

09 Dec 2021

What another busy week! The children are growing with excitement each day but they have been working very hard.

We had a special visitor on Wednesday, his name was Imran. He came into school to share information about the Islamic faith. We started with a whole school assembly where we learnt about the 5 pillars of Islam and then later in the morning we had a workshop focusing on stories and artefacts. Imran told us a little bit about Allah, he has 99 names! After, we listened to lots of lovely stories from the Qur'an:
Aby Talha's Guest
Two baby chicks
Who burned the ants
The crying camel
The Garden owners.
Slide Show

The children listened carefully and thought about the messages of the story. Each story taught us about what Allah was like; all-seeing, all-hearing, all-loving. Afterwards, Imran showed us some special artefacts including, a prayer mat and Kaaba (Allah's house). We found out that when Muslims visits Allah's house, they walk around anti-clockwise seven times and wear two white clothes. The children then looked at pictures of the three important mosques and coloured in a picture of a mosque using these as a reference. It was a really interesting morning as we learnt lots!

This week, we have started our topic on DT. We are focusing on mechanisms until Christmas so we will be making levers and sliders. The children thought about the purpose of a mechanism before looking at examples of these in everyday products, such as books. On Thursday, we made our sliders. The children did such a wonderful job, we were very impressed.

Slide Show

Everyone really enjoyed making their picture move; we had boats, crocodiles, power rangers, sleighs.

On Thursday, Santa set up a workshop in our outdoor area! We have had a lovely time getting the presents ready and helping to decorate the area for Santa. The children have made some very colourful paper chains and some lovely Christmas pictures. Others really enjoyed being little elves, busing themselves by checking the wrapping of presents and making sure we all were on the nice list.

Finally, on Friday we had Christmas jumper day! The children looked brilliant in their lovely jumpers and were very excited to show them off...

We have spent lots of time this week, getting ready for the Christmas carol service. We are so excited to share our hard work with you all next week.

Have a lovely weekend!
