Class 2 Tests, Treasure and Maps
19 Mar 2021
We’ve had another busy week in Class Two. We have all worked very hard on our termly Assessment Tests in maths, reading, spelling and grammar work.
There’s also been lots of fun. We really enjoyed our Forest School session and had an especially muddy time! Please take a look at the photographs that Mrs Goss has posted on the News page. We also enjoyed the Comic Relief activities on Friday morning.
We have begun our theme work to find answers to the question ‘What does the local area provide for us?’ In our geography lessons, we have been learning about maps. We learnt about compass directions and practised using the directions when we programmed the Beebots to follow a route.
We found a map that led us to a treasure chest hidden in the school field. Inside the chest, there was some jewels and coins, along with a letter that explained that some visiting pirates want to find out about our local area and wondered if we could help them. The pirates want to know about what the land provides for us.
We spent this week thinking about things that grow in our area. We thought about the food that is produced, as well as the crops that are grown to feed the animals. We also found out that the land provides building materials such as rocks and trees are grown to produce the timber at the Sawmill. We looked at a map of our area and saw that there is a good water supply because of all the streams that run down the hills into the river. We had fun looking at our local area on Google Earth and saw the location of Yorkshire as we zoomed in and out of the map.
We have begun to create a map for the pirates. Next week, we will also write letters to the pirates to give them the answer to their question.
We decided that it would be fun to pretend to be pirates. Here are some pictures of our pirate activities!
We also say goodbye to Ben today, as he leaves us to join his new school. We will all miss him and hope that he will be very happy and make lots of new friends. Good luck Ben...thank you for being such a brilliant member of our class.
Have a lovely weekend everyone! See you on Monday.
