 Good Morning Class 2!

Story Collective Worship – see Enrichment page

Teams Calls - Year 1 at 10.30 and Year 2 at 11.00
I look forward to seeing you on our video call later.

Printing work ahead of the lesson -
Parents,
Where there is an activity that can be printed for the children write on, the links are hightlighted in pale blue
If you are not able to print sheets, it's fine for the children to look at the activity on the screen, then write the answers in their book.

Work to send in
Each day, I will choose one piece of work or activity that I would like you to send to me.

You can take a photograph or scan the work, then send it to me  - class2@gfschools.co.uk
Try your best with all the activities and keep your work neat and tidy.  Please keep all your work together in your book or a folder and write the date on each piece of work.
Today, please send your answer to the question that is asked at the end of the English lesson.

Reading
Please spend at least 20 minutes each day on reading or sharing a book with an adult.
If you have finished your school reading book, you can read books that you have at home or access books online.
Please see https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/  Free ebooks

Year 2 – Don’t forget to do an AR quiz when you have finished your reading book.   https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

Here is today's book for sharing now or later in the day:

Spelling
Please practise this week's spellings.  Fill in the words on the spelling log for Day 4.  Are you getting better at remembering the words on this week's list?

 Phonics

Today, we're going to log into Phonics Play to play some games to help us with our sounds work:

Please practice the sounds and blend words, using the interactive games found on the link below:
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/
username: jan21   password: home
This link will take you to the home page. Click on the log in, then go to 'Resources'.  Here you will see the games to choose from.  Within the games, there are different levels.  You can start with easier questions then challenge yourself with the harder ones.  Today, please spend at least 20 minutes working on:
Year 1 -
Buried Treasure and Dragon's Den
Year 2 - Picnic on Pluto (choose Phase 5)

English
Over the next two weeks, we are going to be thinking about Explanation texts.  These are pieces of writing that describe how something works or how something happens.   The focus of today's lesson is to explore cause and effect.
https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-cause-and-effect-6rwkgt?activity=video&step=1

You will need to pause the video at different times during the lesson to give you time to do the tasks.  You will need paper and a pencil.
(Year 1 parents - If the children are struggling to complete all the written tasks, please cut down the amount of writing the presenter asks for.  So, just write one of the words instead of all three common exception words, then watch the video about the others.  Then, just one sentence, instead of three.)

At the end of the video, the teacher asked:
‘If you could fly, where would you fly to?’  One of the children on the video said:
I would fly to Australia to see a kangaroo.  Where would you go if you could fly?
Please can you send your sentence to me?  You might also like to draw a picture to show the place you would go to.
This is the work that I would like you to share with me today. Don't forget to use a capital letter to write the names of places.

Science - Seasonal Changes and Wind
Please watch the online video and join in with the activities:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/how-can-we-record-wind-direction-6rrk8c?step=2&activity=video

I hope you enjoy learning about how to measure the speed of the wind. You will be learning about wind socks and how to make a wind sock.  These are the things you will need.

I hope it works!

Here's a wind log for you to complete over the next few days.  You can make your own wind log or use this one, so that you don't have as much writing to do!

-wind log.docx-

Next week, I will ask you to share your wind log with me, when you have recorded the wind speed over five days.

P.E.
It's very important that we do plenty of exercise each day.  You might choose to go outdoors for some exercise or do a Go Noodle activity.  Today, you might like to work out with Joe Wicks.  Here's a recording of  his session from yesterday.

Thankyou for working so hard on your activities.  I have enjoyed looking at the work that has been sent in.
Please let me know if you have any worries or if there is anything I can help you with.

Mrs Lewis will be with you tomorrow and she is looking forward to seeing you all on teams.  Work hard and try your best.  I'll be back with you on Monday.
Take care and try to be helpful at home. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Micklefield
