Class 2 Why Christmas is important to Christians.
10 Dec 2020
Another fantastic festive week draws to a close in Class 2!
Filming
The children have been total stars this week - film stars that is! We have been shooting our recorded nativity play throughout this week, which has been loads of fun but has also supported us with our learning about our big RE question, "Why is Christmas important to Christians?"
Here is a sneaky peak at our Nativity film stars.
Keep an eye out on the website next week for the finished production which sees the whole school come together to help celebrate this wonderful time of year.
How do we know the Christmas Story?
Children have learnt that whilst we often hear the story of Jesus's birth as one story, it is actually written about in two Gospels - Matthew and Luke. The children have all written their own special version of Luke's Gospel story about the birth of Jesus. This version focuses on the shepherds roll in this wonderful story. Here is some of their fantastic work. I think you will agree they have tried very hard!
How do Christians celebrate?
We have also been learning about how Christians celebrate Christmas, thinking daily about Advent and also about the celerations and decorations in Chistian churches. The children discovered the meaning behind the Advent candles in church and created their own advent wreaths. The children took great care and made their wreaths very special, just like the real ones.
Giving thanks at Christmas.
We have also learnt that at Christmas, Christians thank God for sending Jesus to rescue his people. We then thought about what we are thankful for this Christmas and Mrs Lewis was so proud of how many children thought about the Earth around us - the animals and the places that we live in as well as being thankful for all the wonderful people in their lives.
"I am thankful for the earth."
"I am thankful for my brother."
" I give thanks for the lovely food."
"I give thanks for hope."
"I am thankful for the animals."
It really is a pleasure and privaledge to share and learn from one another during our RE sessions. Our big questions really help us think deeply and the children always have such fantastic ideas.
Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day!
To finish our wonderfully festive week we have also enjoyed our Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day this week! Please have a look below at our pictures of these lovely events.
If you haven't already given your donation for Christmas Jumper Day then please head across to your parent pay account to give to this valuable cause. The children learnt about Save the Children and how they help many children all over the world.
