Good Morning Class 2

I hope that you are all well and ready for today's activities. I hear that many of you are enjoying the Rainforest Project.  Remember, you can do them in any order and you don't have to do them all if you don't have time.  For those of you who are in school today, I hope that you have lots of fun with Mrs Matthews and Mrs Acheson!

 P.E:
Wake up and shake up! Start the day with some PE, or maybe have a PE session later in the day.
Click on the link below to choose from the selection of activities.
You could do a morning routine with Joe Wicks, find a fun activity on GoNoodle or try something new like yoga:  https://www.harrogatessp.com/keeping-all-young-people-active/

You might like to do one of these activities, or maybe go for a walk, run or do some cycling.

 Reading:
As usual, try to spend at least 20 minutes reading a book or online reading book.
Year 2 - Do an  AR  quiz when you have finished your book: https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937/

Today, you will also be using  your reading skills to find facts for today’s writing task about a spider monkey or tree frog.
See if you have an information book with facts about one of these animals.

Writing:
Can you create a fact file about a spider monkey or a tree frog? You can choose a different rainforest animal, if you prefer.
Describe what the animal looks like, where it lives and what it eats.  You might also find some other facts.
You might find the facts by looking in an information book or on the internet.

Remember that if you are searching on the internet, you could search like this:
'
Facts about tree frogs for children' or 'Facts for tree frogs for KS1'  This should send you to a page that has writing that you can read and understand:
Here a some links that might be useful:
https://kids.kiddle.co/Red-eyed_tree_frog
https://kids.kiddle.co/Spider_monkey

There is also an artwork activity in the Rainforest Project Learning tasks, below.  You might like to do this later in the day.

Phonics and Spelling:
The word ‘rain’ contains the sound ‘ai .
Can you list as many words as you can that contain the ‘ai’ sound?  You might find words that contain an alternative spelling for ‘ai ’ such as ay a-e

 -T-L-4280-ai-Spelling-Activity_ver_1.pdf-                          -t-l-54278-alternative-spellings-ai-ay-ae-table-activity-sheet-_ver_3.pdf-
Click on these links to see the 'ai' activities or to print them.

Please write the spellings for this week into your spelling log. Then, write three sentences, each with  one or more of the spelling words from your list.

Maths:

Please log into MyMaths to find today’s tasks.

You might also choose to practise your mental recall skills by doing one of the MyMaths games or you could log in to Sumdog or Numbots.

Be kind and help others

Don’t forget to try to do something to help someone else each day! There are lots of things that you could do to be helpful.  Have a think about what you could do to help someone.

Here are the Learning Tasks for the Rainforest Project:

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for you to learn more about the world’s rainforests.
There are activities to find out more about the plants, animals and insects that inhabit the rainforest.
You might also find out about food that originates there and the weather patterns in rainforests.

Mindfulness colouring
If you enjoy colouring, here are some lovely pictures of the rainforest for you to colour, or to copy from your computer screen.

Click on this link to see the parrot and lots of other animals
                                                    -t-tp-6957-rainforest-mindfulness-colouring-pages_ver_1.pdf-

● Where in the World are the Rainforests?
Using an atlas or online map, can you locate the continents (Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America and South America) where rainforests can be found?

Click here to open the map or to print a copy  -rainforest map.pdf-

● Sketch a Spider Monkey or a Tree Frog
Can you create a detailed sketch of an animal that inhabits the rainforest? Use  pencils, crayons,  paint or any drawing tool you prefer.
Copy an image of a rainforest animal, thinking carefully about the patterns and tones.
Here are some pictures for you to look at and there are lots more if you search 'Images of rainforest animals' on the internet.

● Fascinating Forest Floor- Can you create a model replica of the forest floor?
Collect materials from the garden or if you go out for a walk.
What does the rainforest floor look like?   Which animals and insects might be there?

● The Sounds of the Rainforests-
There are many wonderful and intriguing sounds that can be heard in the rainforest.

Watch this BBC Our Planet clip. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p011mwwt

You can watch real footage from a rainforest here.
 https://askabiologist.asu.edu/sites/default/files/virtual-reality/rainforest-biome-VR-360/index.html
You can zoom in to look closely and control the camera to move around the page to look at different things.

Which animal makes the most noise in the rainforest?
Can you predict which animals the sounds have come from.
Can you copy these sounds using objects from around the home?

Rainforest Insects
●   Have a look at this video  about Rainforests: https://safeyoutube.net/w/myH6.

● There are lots of insects/mini-beasts in the rain forest.
You can see some pictures of them here: http://thinkjungle.com/rainforest-life/rainforest-insects/.

Rhinoceros beetle                                   Heliconius Butterflies                Amazon Caterpillar

● Look for mini-beasts living in the garden or on a walk. What are these mini beasts called? Which one do you like the best and why?
● Try drawing pictures of the mini-beasts you find.

Trees and paper
Many trees in the rainforest are chopped down to use for paper.  Can you create a poster about saving and reusing paper at home?

● Take a look at the The Rainforest Alliance website https://www.rainforest-alliance.org/kids
Iis packed full of information, resources and games which may support some of the above activities.
There are stories, as well as an interactive tree house and a Jewels of the Earth game
Click on the pictures to get to the games:

Interactive Treehouse                                Jewels of the Earth game. Find which creatures live in different parts of the rainforest.

Work hard, be kind and have a fun day. I will be back with you tomorrow!
Missing you all,
Love from Mrs Micklefield

A note for Parents,
Just to let you know in advance.  On Friday, one of the suggested tasks is to find a simple recipe that uses chocolate and to follow the instructions to make it.  It might be useful to know about this to help with planning your shopping list!  A chocolate bar would also be useful for the fractions work on Friday.
If you have any queries or problems, or anything you need help with, please feel free to contact me:
class2@gfschools.co.uk If the children have any photographs, pictures or work that they are particularly proud of, please forward them to me and I will post some of them on the website later in the week.
I hope you are all well.
Thankyou,
Mrs Micklefield
