18 May 2020
Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you are all well and ready for today's activities.
This week's Under the Sea project is now in full swing! Some of you have built amazing reading dens with an 'Under the sea' theme and you have been creating fantastic models of sea creatures. I'm glad that you are enjoying the project.
.
Maths:
- Please log in to MyMaths to find today's lesson.
Year 2 -Watch the lesson first, then complete the task. Year 1 - Your task today is to practise number bonds by playing the gnome game.
- Using a clock in your house practise telling the time. Practise reading the time to the nearest hour and half hour. Year 2 - also challenge yourself to read the time in 15 minute intervals and 5 minutes intervals and 5 minute intervals.
- Practise this week’s KIRFs target.
Reading:
Try to read a variety of books at home each day. Aim to spend at least twenty minutes reading. This can be reading a
book aloud or sharing a book with an adult. It might be a book from your bookshelf, a book from school or an online text.
Year 2 - Remember that you can do an Accelarated Reading quiz when you have finished your book: https://ukhosted79.renlearn.co.uk/6706937
Find a poem or nursery rhyme about the sea or creatures that live in the sea. Practise reading the poem, then perform it for a family member. Then, write the poem for your handwriting task. See below
Phonics/Spelling:
Write the words from your list onto your spelling log and practise reading and writing them, ready for the test tomorrow.
Write the alphabet letters in lowercase. Then write the capital letters too. Make sure you use the correct letter formation.
You might like to visit Phonics Play again to play Buried Treasure https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/BuriedTreasure2.html
Writing:
Can you write a list of ten words that you associate with the sea? Next, find some more words that rhyme with the words you have chosen. Then, write some sentences using the sets of rhyming words: eg whale - possible rhymes could be gale and pale. The sentences might be funny ones: The huge, pale whale got showered with seaweed in a gale.
P.E:
Don't forget to fit some PE into your day - it's important to keep your body fit and healthy, as well as being lots of fun! http://www.vimeo.com/sportinginfluence Or, Youtube with Joe, each morning at 9.00am.
Music:
Today, our music activity is from SingUp. I hope you will enjoy learning this song, 'Baby Beluga' which is all about a little white whale
https://www.singup.org/singupathome/song-of-the-week'
Learn to sing the song with Charlotte Law, then enjoy singing along to the performance track.
Be kind and help others
Don’t forget to try to do something to help someone else each day! There are lots of things that you could do to be helpful. I've had messages that some of you have been helping in the kitchen, helping with gardening and washing the car. Well done!
Work hard, be kind and have a fun day. I will be back with you tomorrow!
Missing you all,
Love from Mrs Micklefield
Parents,
Please find details below for this week's Learning Project.
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about life in and around the sea. Learning may focus on the strange and wonderful creatures and plants that occupy our oceans, their habitats and how human beings affect this environment.
● Guess Who?- Ask your child to write fact cards about animals from under the sea. They can use books or websites to find out about the appearance, habitat and diet of each creature. After this, play a game of ‘Guess Who?’ using the cards and yes/no questions.
● Junk Modelling- Using junk or recycling materials from around the home, ask your child to design and make a Sea Turtle. Your child may wish to make another sea creature after this.
● Put Your Goggles On- Your child can visit this website and watch a live stream of a tropical reef. https://explore.org/livecams/under-the-water/pacific-aquarium-tropical-reef-camera
Whilst watching, ask them to sketch all of the animals that they can see. Remind them to look at the shapes and patterns on each creature and to include these in their sketches.
● How do Humans Affect the Sea?- Is your child aware of all of the ways that humans affect the sea and the living things within it? Talk about and investigate the impact that human beings have on the sea. Think about fishing, transport and pollution. Create a poster or information report.
● The Oceans of the World- Using an atlas or the web ask your child to identify the world’s oceans. Year 1 children may need some support with this. Can they find out what animals live in each ocean? This game allows your child to practise naming and locating the oceans. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/World_Continents.htm
Unplugged Coding ● Watch this video. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/ztqxhyc ● Create a simple under the sea obstacle course or draw an obstacle course on a piece of paper. Write simple code to guide the submarine around the obstacles found under the sea. E.g. Rocks, shipwrecks, sleeping octopus. E.g. →→↓→→↑→ etc
There are some lovely games and ideas from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. https://rnli.org/youth-education/education-resources/online-learning
