Class Two Geography - Where in the world....?
N.Micklefield - 05 Mar 2020
This week, we have been busy using maps, atlases and globes to identify different places in the world. We began by using Google Earth to locate Grantley. We zoomed in to locate the village and our school. We zoomed out to see Ripon and other parts of Yorkshire, then the whole of the UK and surrounding seas. We zoomed out further to see other continents and then the whole of planet Earth from Space. We had lots of fun zooming in and out from Space to different locations around the world, as well as looking for our homes and places familiar to us.

We used our map skills to locate and label the countries of the United Kingdom, along with the surrounding seas.

We then began to look at the continents on the world map. We looked at the globe to find the line that represents the equator and we found out that places nearer to the equator are hottest.
Year one used their teamwork skills to successfully create a giant map of the world. They carefully cut out paper jigsaw pieces. Then they looked at maps and globes to find where all the pieces of the continents needed to be placed.

Year Two children worked with a partner to find interesting facts about the different continents.

We are looking forward to investigating the oceans of the world, next week.
In other curriculum areas, we have been working on multiplication in maths and learning about identifying and using verbs, in our grammar lesson.
Last week, we wrote book some brilliant book reviews for our homework and we enjoyed sharing them with our friends at school.

Maybe some of the characters from these books will appear at school on World Book Day on Friday!
