Puppets, Powerdown Pete and Recycled Monsters

N.Micklefield - 12 Feb 2020

Powerdown Pete came to visit our school this week.  We learnt that we need to help to protect our planet.  We took part in lots of games that helped us to understand ways that humans damage the planet and ways in which we can help to save the planet.  We learnt that it is very important that we try to save energy whenever we can.

Our learning focus this week has been Art.  We have been looking at the work of artists who create sculptures.
We found out that  sculptures are 3d  and can be made from many different materials such as wood, rock, metal and clay.  We looked at some pictures of sculptures that were made entirely from recycled materials.  We know that we can save energy by recycling materials so we decided to design and make some monster sculptures using junk materials.
We thought carefully about the materials that we needed to create the monster in our design.  We tried hard to fix the different materials together using appropriate fastenings.  We had lots of fun designing and creating some very strange monsters!!

On Thursday afternoon, we all enjoyed a visit to Grantley Village Hall to watch the Selfish Giant.  It was great to meet up with our friends from Grewelthorpe School and we had lots of fun watching the performance.  We also enjoyed learning about how the puppets worked and some of us even had a turn at being a puppeteer!

Have a lovely half-term holiday everyone!
