Class 2 - Writing

This week, we welcomed Olivia to our class.  Olivia has already made lots of new friends and has quickly settled into our classroom routines. William D. had his birthday on Thursday and we enjoyed listening to his plans for birthday celebrations. 

We have been working really hard on our writing skills.  We thought about the things that make good sentences:
........      "Begin each sentence with a capital letter" 
                       "We should end with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark." 
                                          "We need finger spaces between each word"
                                                "We must check that our sentence makes sense."

We learnt that a set of rules for a task is called the 'Success Criteria.'  As well as trying to use the steps in the success criteria, we know that we must try to use neat handwriting and tidy presentation. 

We enjoyed writing about our visit to Stump Cross Caverns.  We planned our writing after we had looked at the photographs from the trip, then we all shared the things that we had remembered and enjoyed .  We created a timeline of the events that took place throughout the day, then we began our writing.  We learnt how to edit our work to make it better and we used our purple pens to correct mistakes.
Afterwards, we read our work to each other and celebrated our writing successes.

                                                       

       
        
       

As well as working on our recounts about the trip, we have continued to enjoy reading lots of funny poems about dinosaurs.  We have explored the rhyming patterns and matched words that rhymed.  We thought the illustrations by Korky Paul were very funny and we're working on some book cover illustrations of our own.
