10.10.19 Our Visit to Stump Cross Caverns

09 Oct 2019

On Wednesday,  we were very excited to go on our school trip to Stump Cross Caverns.  Mr Atkinson sent a bus to take us to the caverns at Greenhow. When we arrived, we saw the friendly faces of  Danni and Stephen, who came to school last week to do the fossil workshop.  They showed us the way into the caverns and explained what we would be doing. We all listened carefully to the safety instructions.

It was a wonderful experience to see somewhere that has hardly changed since prehistoric times.  We  found out that the caves began to be formed millions of years ago when the land was covered by oceans. We saw fossils of living things from millions of years ago.  We were amazed to see the beautiful rock formations that have grown over thousands of years.

The cave was a very quiet and peaceful place. We stopped to listen for a minute and we could only hear the sounds of dripping water, as it fell from the roof of the cave.

There were even some model dinosaur eggs as well as some tiny fairy doors!
