Recounts, Reading and Fun at Forest School
20 May 2022
Over the past few weeks, we have particularly enjoyed our Forest School sessions with Mrs Whitford.
We have been learning how to build and light fires and how to handle tools safely. We've had fun doing the den building activities and exploring the mud kitchen! We enjoyed planting seeds and we’re looking forward to watching them grow over the coming weeks.
This week, the children in Year Two have worked hard on their SATS tests….
Some of us said that we enjoyed doing the tests! Others were not quite so keen but the tests were soon over and we had some extra playtime!
Following our trip to Castle Bolton last week, we wrote recounts about our visit. We all worked hard to write about the events of the day and the things that we saw. We tried hard to create sentences and Year Two were also challenged to use time conjunctions to show the order of when things happened. During our marking feedback, we celebrated things that had been done well and then we talked about how we could make our writing even better. Our next step was to use our purple pens to edit our work and make improvements.
In Guided Reading we explored a selection of non-fiction books about castles. We thought about the features of non-fiction books, then used the books to retrieve information about armour, the different parts of a castle and facts about how food was cooked in the kitchen.

Next week, there will be Jubilee Celebration activities to enjoy. We have lots of planning and preparation to do before our party on Friday and we hope that you will be able to join us.
Looking ahead to next half-term, we are very pleased to have been invited to visit
Studfold Adventure Trail, on Tuesday 7
th June. The visit will support our learning in science when we will be considering the question ‘How do plants change over time?’ Please see the article about the trip for more details.
Have a lovely weekend!
